Overview
The Apeiron Nutrition Genomics Report looks at the genes that affect your body's macronutrient needs, i.e. the various types of carbohydrates, fats, and protein. Questions that are answered by this report include the following:
- What genetic propensities affect my hunger, satiety, and appetite control?
- What genetic propensities affect my handling of sugars and my risk of diabetes, insulin resistance, and metabolic syndrome?
- What genetic propensities affect my ability to tolerate dairy lactose and fat?
- What genetic propensities affect my ability to tolerate gluten?
- What genetic propensities affect my ability to tolerate grains and glutamate?
- What genetic propensities affect my ability to control my consumption of sweets?
- What is my genetic propensity to lose weight with a low-carbohydrate diet as opposed to a high carbohydrate diet? E.g. would an Atkins, Zone, or Ornish diet better suit my personal genetic propensities? This personalized question is much more precise that the question of which diet works best on average for the most people in a population?
- What is my genetic propensity for optimum intake of various kinds of fats, including total fats, saturated, polyunsaturated, omega-3, omega-6, and monounsaturated fats?
- What is my genetic propensity for optimum intake of protein?
- What is my genetic risk for dangerous unhealthy accumulation of plant sterols in my body?
- Is my genetic propensity for a high metabolic rate or a low metabolic rate?
The good news is that answers to the above questions only identify what your statistical probabilities are for problems in the various areas. It is necessary to correlate the above propensities with your actual clinical symptoms (complaints) and laboratory values. But the biggest value in knowing the answers to the above questions is that it can guide precise epigenetic interventions (treatments) that specifically target the problem areas, rather than taking "shotgun" advice like "if you have this complaint, then some people have found that this prescription/treatment/supplement/herb will help; we don't know what will help you, but lets throw some mud on the wall and see what sticks; you have the following diagnosis, so let's prescribe the drug that the FDA and your insurance company has approved for this diagnosis."
